WAITING

I am in a waiting room of dreams and aspirations,
Braving the sterile air because my potential is pregnant,
I know not the gender,
But here I am, waiting.

I am on the sidelines waiting to be put in,
So I can show off that one kick I practised,
One thousand times,
I am waiting,

I am backstage fighting my nerves,
I hope this is my last round,
Before the blinding stage lights,
Still, I am waiting,

I wonder if this corridor ends in a dead end,
All these closed doors that remain locked,
Mock the promises of opportunity,
For which I am waiting,

A good coach will tell you,
Sometimes, it is better to take the tackle than fight it,
Learn to fall without injuring yourself and pick up after,
So I lay in waiting,

I guess in learning to fall safely,
We yearn to reach greater heights,
But I am a chest of empty drawers,
Gathering dust in my waiting,

I am a cabinet of curiosities,
And worried I am feline,
But still, I am waiting.
