REMEMBER

As I grow up, so does my pain,
I remember when “Hi, my name is…”
Was the epitome of self introduction,
That sow budding seeds of friendship,
Between smiles with missing teeth,
On the playground,
Where you made the best of friends,
Before those bonds were broken,
By another child’s “Hi, my name is…”
And you swore you tasted betrayal,
But you really didn’t know what that felt like…

Before the “Will you be my friend?”
Turned to “I don’t want to be your friend any more”
Before the “This is my bestest friend”
Turned into “We don’t play together any more”
Before the “I like you”
Turned into “I don’t like you any more”
Before the “I love you” turned into,
“I don’t think I know what that means any more”
Before the “I see you” turned into
“I don’t feel like I know you any more”

But I really didn’t know what that felt like,
Until I learnt to introduce myself again,
Saying “Hi, my name is… Pain,
And maybe it’s a weird name
But not to me,
I guess it’s because, I grew up with it”
