MERRILY

Merrily, merrily, merrily,
Religion falling off their bones,
Like raindrops off the leaves,
On trees in the afterglow of the sun,

Merrily, merrily, merrily,
The reason for the season,
A name akin to treason,
To ears too liberal for religion,

Merrily, merrily, merrily,
A jolly feeling slightly less than holy,
A candle flame without warmth,
Like a cold speck of light.

Merrily, merrily, merrily,
Maybe the joy got lost down the road,
A false belief in triggers of time,
Bitter festivities
