MARIONETTE

Heartbreak has its hand up my back,
Controlling my every word,
Holding my spine like a hostage so brittle,
It could break with a twist if only a little,

So I am left to hang stiff,
Lest I bend myself in love,
A little more than my weak heart allows,
Believing a false wall was my security,

See how I dance,
Ever so slightly out of time,
Pulled every which way,
I promise I am in control,

If my arms awkwardly embrace you,
I promise I am in control,
If I trip over my feet walking to you,
I promise I am in control

When I sing these words,
I promise I am in control,
When I dance these steps,
I promise I am in control,

When I say these words,
I promise I am in control,
I promise I am in control,
I am in control,

Or at least I think I am,
Sometimes it’s the loneliness,
That has its way with me,
And practices ventriloquism,

Sometimes, I am hanging by a thread,
Dangling like a fish on a line,
I swear I am only alive,
For as long as I am fighting,

Until the day the scars left,
By these strings leave these wrists,
Please let me be yours, to let,
Even if I am just a marionette,
