INFLUENCE

I used to search bottles,
Top to bottom for you,
Like you were hidden,
Behind every sip,

In the bitter aftertaste,
Like a snap back into reality,
You’d tickle the back of my tongue,
And I’d try to wash you down

One sip into the next,
In conversations with self,
Before the world started,
To shake and slide,

Yet you weren’t there,
Between the neck of one bottle,
And the bottom of the next,
Just a glimpse, my imagination,

Well, I stopped looking,
Found the keys to this,
And when the chains fell off,
I found my wings,

Freedom found me learning,
To find my own without you,
Like happily flying was me,
Without your influence,
